This certificate program will give you the skills to gain employment within an aged care environment. This qualification addresses work primarily in residential facilities under direct or regular supervision within clearly defined organisation guidelines and service plans. Study this course and learn how to work effectively with older people, participate in the implementation of care plans, provide support to patients and follow WHS safety procedures. You will:
  • Carry out activities related to maintaining an individual's well being through personal care and/or other activities of living
  • May provide services to individuals with complex needs, and/or work with groups of older people. Work may include training and support to promote independence and community participation, which may be provided as part of activities and programs in a variety of settings including residential and centre-based programs.
  • Report to service managers and liaise with professionals and other service providers
  • May be required to supervise and/or coordinate a limited number of other workers.

Clinical placement:
Workplace placement is a compulsory part of the course. You will need to complete a minimum of 120 hours of clinical placement in a residential aged care facility as part of training program in order to complete this course. You are required to organise your own work placement with an aged care facility of your choice & in consultation with Start Education. Current police clearance is required prior to commencement of your clinical placement. First Aid certificate is also recommended but not essential.
